The students ninth prom leaves La Poudrière on July, 10th. All the films made within the school year will be screened on July, Thursday 9th at Lux in Valence. You'll see :
- the one minute films directed by the first year students, thema : “Short love story”
- the one minute films made for Canal J channel, thema : “having one's head in the clouds: for better or for worse”
- graduation films,
and some group works.

- Canal+ special Cretin films evening

On June 12th at11:30pm, Canal+ presents a special edition of its magazine show Mensomadaire, offering '1800 seconds of animation with a series of increasingly spupid animals... and a few pretty dumb humans too'. La Poudrière is part of the show: during a new kind of workshop, four specialists of the “cretin film” genre, Fédérico Vitali, Marv Newland, Stéphane Aubier and Christophe Héral, for the soundtrack, helped the first year students create a three-minute film, as cretin as possible! They did it! De le bon usage de les amis chez le chien moderne, produced with Canal + partnership, will be broadcast on the TV channel on June 12th 2009, in the Mensomadaire show. It will also be on Canal+Family, on thu June 16th and 17th.

- La Poudrière in Catalunya

The CCCB, Barcelona Contemporary Culture Center, will host La Poudrière for a special animation films Directing masterclass. After the screening of a graduation films compilation, Hugo Frassetto, 2008 student, will present the specific technic of sand animation. He'll also talk about his experience of film directing, with his graduation film, Traverser, which was in competition in Cannes festival in May. Catherine Aladenise, the editor who has worked with him on his film will also be present.
This masterclass has been organized with the support of Région Rhône-Alpes, within the Rhône-Alpes week in Catalunya and in collaboration with XCentric, the CCCB cinema, the festival Animac in Lleida and the school 9Zero in Barcelona.

- Traverser is in competition at Cannes 2009 !

Traverser, Hugo Frassetto's graduation film, is in competition in Cannes. This short, sand-animation film, with a soundtrack by Christophe Serpinet, has been produced with the support of French TV Channel Arte.
Created in 1998 and devoted to the search for new talent, the Cinéfondation selects fifteen to twenty short and medium-length works each year from film schools all over the world. The Cinéfondation selection forms part of Cannes Festival's Official Selection. This year, seventeen films from thirteen countries have been selected.

- L'Abandon won the Main Award of the International competition of classic animation student films at 2009 Zlin Dog festival

For its 6th edition, Zlin Dog international student film festival awarded L'Abandon, Mathieu Perrier graduation film (2008), the Main Award of the International competition of classic animation. This film evoques soul misteries, with a sound illustration by Fabrice Faltraue. Zlin Dog jury was composed of Jerzy Kucia (Poland), Josef Sklenar (Slovaquia) and Marek Pokorny (CzechRepublic).

- Three European films schools in the spotlight at Aubagne festival

For its tenth edition, the Aubagne International Film festival has chosen to invite three European films schools, which share a similar educational goal: the place given to musical creation in film-directing : The Polish National Film School of Lodz (Poland) ; Bratislava Academy of Arts, Broadcast and Feature Department, VSMU (Slovaquia) ; and la Poudrière. The festival will give the opportunity to exchange about their educational approaches, their practices and the way they consider the link between music and image. The meeting will take place this Thursday 19th of March 2009, at 9.30 am at The Espace Bras d'Or in Aubagne. A screening with a films compilation of the three schools will end the meeting at 11.00 am. Christophe Héral, a composer who worked on many La Poudrière students films soundtracks, will represent La Poudrière school and Magali Billioud-Tourlan (2008 student) will present her graduation film, Granny Nano.

- Double Je awarded in Animex

New prize at Animex, student film festival in England, which rewards each year Poudrière talents : Camille Rossi has received a Stop Motion (puppets animation) mention for Double je, her graduation film, which shows with originality a man in fight with his double personality. In 2008, Animex awarded Marco Marchetti a Stop Motion Prize for his graduation film, My son and Benjamin Renner had a 2D Animation mention for A mouse's tale.

- Arte Prize winners revealed at Clermont Ferrand Festival

Arte has launched a web competition of films directed by students of french and belgian animation schools. The competition winners were revealed at the Clermont Ferrand Short film festival. Samare, by Nicolaï Troshinsky, won the Arte Jury Second Prize. Samare is a one minute exercise film, made during the Poudrière first year.
At Clermont-Ferrand, Camillelvis Théry, 2005 Poudrière student, presented Inukshuk, his first professional short film, in “Labo” competition. Inukshuk won a “Labo” Jury special mention at the festival.
Four La Poudrière films were present at the Clermont Ferrand Short film festival this year: L'abandon, Mathieu Perrier graduation film in the “Labo” Competition, Les pieds sur terre by Franz Kirchner in a “School” Program and Le placard (Canal J film) and Traverser (graduation film), by Hugo Frassetto in a “Regional Films” Program. Traverser will be broadcast on Court-Circuit , an Arte Program, this month.

The next trainig session in animation filmmaking will begin in September 2009. Applications are open to French and foreign students, trainees of continuous professional studies wishing to specialise in animation filmmaking. Minimum age required is 23. Candidates should have a practical knowledge of animation and a solid artistic and cinematographic background. They should also be mature, highly motivated and able to develop personal film projects. The training courses are mainly given in French. Application forms can be requested by phone (+ 33(0)4.75.82.08.08 or directly on the school web site with the application form request.

- Hélène Friren Winner of the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation Grant

Hélène Friren (class of 2006) is the 2008 winner of the “Animated Filmmaker grant” of the Jean-Luc Lagardère Foundation. Each year, foundation helps talents in ten artistic fields. Hélène has been chosen for Au Poil, a three-minute short on the vagaries of a relationship between a character and his hamster. She's been awarded a 30 000 euros grant during the prize-giving night on Tuesday December 9th, at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
It's the third time La Poudrière students are rewarded by the Lagardère Foundation for their projects : Christophe Gautry (class of 2005) won the TV Screenwriter Grant in 2006 ; Camillelevis Théry (also class of 2005) won the “Animated Filmmaker Grant Special Price” in 2007 for Inukshuk, a short film project on the North Pole metamorphosis. Produced by Sip Animation, Inukshuk was screened for the first time on December 7th at the Max Linder Panorama Cinema in Paris.

- Fitnass Center for Christmas on Arte

The Court-Circuit programme on Arte will broadcast Fitnass Center, Julien Allard student film on Tuesday December 23, 2008. The story? Séverine often views herself as ugly, especially when her ex boyfriend Alex tells her so. Today, however, it's time to celebrate: Séverine has found a voucher for a free fitness session.

- Mamie Nano won the Beaumarchais/SACD Prize

Magali Billioud-Tourlan 2008 student film has just won the « Best French-speaking short film” Prize from the Beamarchais/SACD, during the Nuits Magiques festival in Bègles, France. Mamie Nano is a subtle puppets film about old age and the way a little child sees it.

- Two new distinctions for A mouse's tale

Benjamin Renner already won many international prizes for his student film, including the 2008 Cartoon d'Or. A mouse's tale has been awarded a Special Mention at the I Castelli Animati festival in Genzano di Roma (from November 26th to November 30th 2008) for “a first work maturity”.The DOK Leipzig Festival (from October 27th to November 2nd 2008) decided to award the film an Honorary Mention for “ a distinguished animation film”.

- La Poudrière will be at the Clermont-Ferrand Short Film festival

Four of the last Poudrière students films will be present at the 31st International Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand (from January 30th to February 7th 2009): L'abandon, Mathieu Perriers's student film is in the “Labo” Competition; Feet on the ground, Franz Kirchner's student film will be in a “School Programme”; Hugo Frassetto's Traverser (student film) and Le Placard (Canal J Film) will be screened in a “Special Region” Programme.
